Living in Harmony: Discovering Eco-Communities Worldwide 🌎

Welcome to the inspiring world of eco-communities — intentional groups living sustainably and in harmony with nature.
These communities shrink their footprint while fostering vibrant, cooperative lifestyles.
Searching “Community” on Facebook opens a rabbit hole of groups and tribes exploring co-supportive, ecological living.

What Are Eco-Communities?

Eco-communities are purpose-driven settlements built around sustainable living and environmental stewardship which often includes:

  • Practice organic gardening & permaculture

  • Use renewable energy and reduce waste

  • Share resources and make decisions collectively

Each one becomes a living laboratory — showing new ways to build homes, generate power, grow food, and foster meaningful human connection.

Why They Matter

Eco-communities inspire the wider world to adopt greener lifestyles.

Workshops, tours, and cultural exchange allow visitors to learn hands-on about regenerative living, local resilience, and community creativity.

Thinking of Joining or Visiting?

  • Do your research: Review mission statements, economic models, and governance.

  • Visit first: Many eco-villages offer Airbnb or guest programs so you can experience daily life.

  • Align with your values: Make sure the community’s culture and resources match your vision.

Living in an eco-community isn’t just about sustainability — it’s about belonging, shared purpose, and co-creating a better future.

A message from Cary Kirastar:

As much as we treasure independence, most of us don’t truly want to live alone. The dream of community calls to something deep in the human heart — yet thriving together takes conscious skills: listening, compassion, shared vision.

Over the years I’ve seen how established communities hold a wealth of wisdom about sustainability and human connection, and how fresh, new communities are blossoming across the globe — from Central America and Mexico to the U.S., Asia, Spain, Portugal, and beyond. Many are alive with purity of consciousness and futuristic ideas in harmony with nature.

If community life calls to you, follow that pull. The experience is worth it. What we might “give up” in individual achievement, we multiply through shared creation and the support of a group. As Ken Carey said, “Communities are the islands of the future.” May we dare to build and join them — shaping new ways of living, together.

Emerging Movement — One Small Town 🌱

Michael Tellinger’s One Small Town initiative helps existing towns reorganize around local contribution, cooperation, and abundance instead of starting isolated villages.

Example: Ras El Matn, Lebanon — a $3.9M Bee World Initiative with 9,000 hives creating honey, beeswax products, and even frequency-based healing chambers while revitalizing the local economy.
